Prismara ReachHow-to guide

Start a remote session

  • Applies to Administrators
  • ⏱ 5 min

Prismara Reach supports two kinds of remote session:

  • Attended — a user is at the device and must accept your request before you can see or control the screen.
  • Unattended — you connect without a prompt. Use this for servers and devices with nobody at them, and only where your organisation’s access rules allow it.
  • The Reach agent is installed and the device shows Online in the console.
  • You have the Reach technician or Reach administrator role.
  • For attended sessions, contact the user first so they expect the request.
  1. In the Reach console, select Devices and open the device.

  2. Select Connect > Request access.

  3. Choose what to request: View only or View and control. Add a short Reason, for example Printer driver issue, ticket 1234.

  4. Select Send request. The user sees a consent prompt on their device showing your name, your organisation and the reason.

  5. When the user selects Allow, the remote session opens in a new browser tab.

If the user selects Decline or doesn’t respond within two minutes, the request is cancelled and you see a message in the console.

While a session is active, the user sees a banner on their screen saying who is connected. They can select End session at any time.

Unattended access is turned off by default. A Reach administrator turns it on per site or device group in Settings > Access rules. Each rule sets:

  • Applies to — the sites or device groups covered.
  • Who can connect — the technicians or roles allowed.
  • Notify signed-in user — whether a banner is shown if someone is signed in.

When a rule applies, select Connect > Connect now on the device. All sessions are recorded in the device’s Activity log.

  1. In the session toolbar, select End session.

  2. Optionally, add a Session note describing what you did, then select Save.

Closing the browser tab also ends the session.

The device’s Activity tab shows the session with its start and end time, the technician, the access type and any note.
