Prismara OSTroubleshooting
Troubleshoot Prismara OS
Find the symptom that matches your problem and follow the resolution steps in order.
My PC won't start from the USB drive
Cause: The USB drive wasn’t written correctly, the PC is starting from its internal disk first, or the PC is set to start in legacy BIOS mode.
Resolution:
- Restart the PC and open the boot menu again. The key is often F12, F11, F10 or Esc; check your PC manufacturer’s guide if none of these work.
- If the USB drive is listed twice, choose the entry that starts with UEFI.
- Try a different USB port, ideally one directly on the PC rather than through a hub.
- Write the USB drive again, choosing disk image mode and GPT for UEFI if the tool asks.
- Check the download’s checksum against the one on the download page. If it doesn’t match, download Prismara OS again.
- If your PC is managed by your organisation, the boot menu may be locked. Ask your IT team.
I see a Secure Boot violation message
Cause: The PC’s firmware doesn’t trust the software it’s trying to start. This can happen on some PCs with older firmware or with custom Secure Boot settings.
Resolution:
- Don’t turn off Secure Boot as a first step. It protects your PC from start-up threats.
- Open your PC’s firmware settings and check that Secure Boot is set to its default or Standard mode, then restart.
- Update your PC’s firmware from the manufacturer’s support website, then try again.
- If you use the Enterprise edition, your organisation controls which software the computer trusts at start-up. Contact your IT team; they need to prepare the PC.
- If the message continues on a Personal or Business installation, contact support with your PC’s make and model.
Wi-Fi isn't detected
Cause: The PC’s wireless adapter needs a driver or firmware that isn’t available during setup, or wireless is turned off.
Resolution:
- Check that wireless isn’t turned off with a key, switch or airplane mode.
- Connect the PC to the internet with a network cable, or share your phone’s connection over USB.
- Open Settings > Updates and install all available updates, then restart.
- Open Settings > Additional drivers and install any driver offered for your wireless adapter.
- If Wi-Fi still doesn’t appear, contact support with your PC’s make and model.
The screen resolution is wrong
Cause: The display driver isn’t set up correctly for your graphics card, or the display is using a fallback resolution.
Resolution:
- Open Settings > Displays and choose the resolution marked Recommended.
- Check the display cable is firmly connected. Try a different cable or port if you can.
- Open Settings > Updates and install all available updates, then restart.
- Open Settings > Additional drivers and install any driver offered for your graphics card, then restart.
- If everything looks too small or too large, change Scale under Displays rather than lowering the resolution.
